Update on Tropical Storm in Gulf of Mexico

LIBERTY, August 24, 2013 - Liberty County Emergency Management Coordinator Tom Branch informed i-dineout.com that the tropcial wave in the Gulf of Mexico could develop over the weekend.

The tropical wave in the eastern Gulf of Mexico is becoming a bit more active this afternoon with additional thunderstorms developing along the northern Gulf coast. Given this activity the National Hurricane Center has increased the chance of development for this system to 20% over the next 48 hours. At this time, none of the computer models develop this wave into a depression or tropical storm, and it is forecast to continue moving quickly westward across the northern Gulf with little time for further strengthening. This system will likely bring increased showers and thunderstorms, along with the threat for locally heavy rainfall, to southeast Texas on Sunday and Monday. We will continue to monitor this system and will provide additional updates via email over the weekend if it continues to show increased organization.
