AmeriCorps Helps City of Liberty
LIBERTY, May 1, 2013 - The Sun 8 AmeriCorps Team stationed out of Denver, CO, is working a 5 week detail at the Trinity River National Wildlife Refuge in Liberty, TX.
Aside from the various projects they have worked on for the Refuge, Team Members also have the opportunity to assist with additional non-Refuge projects like the Relay for Life and Shred-it events held in the City of Liberty.
On April 27th, Team Members assisted Liberty City officials with the bi-annual Shred-it event. Over 100 vehicles stopped by with over 500 boxes and bags of sensitive documents dropped off for free shredding. After nearly 3 hours of unloading each vehicle, stacking boxes, and then loading boxes back on truck for shredding, the truck filled up and some folks were turned away.
Not only will this shredded material be recycled, but all the cardboard boxes were also broken down for recycling. The next Shred-it event will be planned for the fall, but we won’t have all this free labor to help out!
