2-Year-Old Victim in Dayton Shooting in Guarded Condition
DAYTON, January 8, 2013 - The Dayton Police Department is investigating the shooting of a 2-year-old child at 107 Milo Street in Dayton that occurred around 8:00 PM Tuesday evening. The Dayton Volunteer Fire Department and Liberty County EMS responded to assist the victim and care for the victim’s injuries. Liberty County EMS left the Dayton residence in the Ford Estates Subdivision with the victim in route to Hermann Hospital in Houston by ground ambulance. The child is said to be in guarded condition according to Investigator Doug O’Quinn of the Dayton PD.
According to Investigator O’Quinn, Mayra Arreozola of Liberty was eating dinner with her brother, homeowner Jorge Arreozola with her young son, when the child wandered into a bedroom and gained access to a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun that in turn accidentally discharged striking the young child in the chest. The bullet exited through the child’s back.
The Dayton Police Department is continuing it’s investigation and Child Protective Services has been notified to commence their investigation into the incident.
Any possible charges in this incident including allowing a child to gain access to a gun, will be the focus of the continuing investigation into this matter.
