Major Accident on SH 146 South of Dayton

DAYTON, June 16, 2013 – Around 6:00 AM on Sunday near daybreak, a major accident occurred on SH 146 South of Dayton across from the school when a southbound Chevy Blazer drifted off the roadway and collided head on with a large culvert.

Liberty County EMS and the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department responded to the accident scene to rescue the driver from the wreckage of his vehicle.

Life Flight was summoned to the scene and landed on a temporary landing zone on the highway just north of the accident and transported the badly injured driver to Houston for treatment of broken lower extremities, a head injury and other injuries.

Officer Carr with the Dayton Police Department is investigating the accident and at press time the identity of the driver is not known.

According to public records the regisstered owner of the vehicle is Matthew Shepard of Dayton, TX.

SH 146 was closed in both directions so that Life Flight could land on the roadway.
