Runner Apprehended at Wal-Mart

LIBERTY, September 20, 2013 - Sometimes those who are shoplifting items at the Liberty Wal-Mart assume if they can get across the parking lot and into the woods near the SH 146 they can hide and escape.

Such is not the case as proven by the actions today of one female who ran across the parking lot from the store loosing her shoes and into the woods near the Chili’s parking lot with some black sheets she is accused of taking from the store.

While fleeing from the store across the parking lot the woman lost her shoes and kept on running into the woods with the stolen sheets.

City of Liberty Police units responded to the Wal-Mart parking lot running emergency traffic with lights and sirens coming from the Police Station on Lakeland Drive with other motorists ducking into the driveways of parking lots to get out of the way.

The runner and accused shoplifter, Jowanna McBride age 20 of Liberty, was quickly found hiding in the woods, taken into custody and placed in handcuffs near the south side of the Chili’s parking lot.

According to Police, the woman had previously received a Criminal Trespass Warning for the store and was not to return which tipped off Asset Protection Personnel when they recognized her on a repeat visit today around 3:30 PM.

After arrest and investigation into the incident McBride was transported to the Liberty County Jail charged with Theft of Property with two or more previous convictions and Criminal Trespass.

The moral of the story is don't try to flee into the woods at the Wal-Mart and escape your actions. It's been done before and just doesn't work.
