Liberty PD Pursuit Ends in Hardin
LIBERTY, May 30, 2013 – Officer Elizabeth Polasek with the City of Liberty Police Department located a man selling tasers and pepper spray after someone called the police department to report him just after 1:00 PM on Thursday.
Polasek located the man in the parking lot near the Burke’s Outlet Store in the Brookshire Brother Shopping Center in Liberty and found that he did not have a permit to sell in Liberty.
Office Polasek asked the man his name and then noticed that the social security card in his wallet had a different name. She asked the man about this discrepancy and he immediately fled on foot across the large parking lot toward the Jack in the Box and the Pizza Hut across Main Street. Officer Polasek gave chase and notified her dispatcher to send back up.
The man identified as Gentre Williams age 24 of Virginia got into a silver Ford Mini-Van and fled north on North Main Street with Officers in Pursuit.
The pursuit reached speeds of 100 mph and finally ended in Hardin, TX when the mini-van left the roadway, side swiped a utility pole and came to rest in the parking lot of the Happy Chap Convenience Store at the intersection SH 146 and FM 834.
During further investigation, it was found that there was four males that were selling the items and that the one who fled is a registered sex offender out of the state of Virginia who had failed to register in Texas or Virginia in a year, possible charges are pending.
Mr. Williams was transported to Liberty Dayton Hospital for possible injuries that were sustained in the accident. After treatment at the hospital, Mr. Williams will be transported to Liberty County Jail for evading arrest or detention in a vehicle and fail to identify.
