Major Accident Main at Grand
LIBERTY, September 21, 2013 - A major accident occurred near Grand Ave. and Main Street in Liberty shortly before 10:30 PM that took down power poles, electric lines and streetlights. Main Street is closed from Webster to Myrtle Street and traffic is being detoured around the site at the time of this report. Electric Crews will be working in the area to make repairs.
According to Officer Frank Longoria of the City of Liberty Police Department a grey Chevy pickup driven by Martin German Mata-Lopez age 19 of Liberty was traveling east on Grand Street and stopped at the red light at Main Street.
A older model, flat bed, Ford work truck was traveling south on Main Street and left the roadway to the right just before Grand Ave. striking a utility pole and traveling through the parking lot of the storage facility at the intersection.
The Ford work truck took out the utility pole and caused another in front of Ann’s Seafood to break as well. The work truck then crashed into the side of the Chevy pickup on Grand Ave. that was stopped at the red light.
The driver of the Ford work truck stopped briefly and then sped off continuing south on Main Street.
At 12:30 AM power had not been restored awaiting the arrival of electrical crews to replace the two poles that were taken down due to the accident.
