Young Man Killed When Struck by Passing Van
LIBERTY, July 26, 2013 - At 4:40 AM on City of Liberty Police Officers were first to respond to an automobile pedestrian accident on US 90 just of east of the red light at FM 160 near Ozan Street.
Officer Walter of Liberty Police was first to arrive and immediately determine there were no vital signs exhibited by the accident victim. He immediately began performing CPR assisted by other arriving Officers followed by later arriving Sheriff Deputies until an ambulance of Liberty County EMS arrived.
The Sheriff’s Department immediately began the investigation into the accident and closed US 90 in both directions.
According to Officer Walter the victim is a young adult, black, male whose identity has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
Officer Walter further stated that according to witnesses the victim, walking on or near the road was struck by a passing van that did not stop and render aid and left the scene. The victim was thrown onto the paved shoulder of the road near the fog line.
