Metal Thieves Arrested
LIBERTY, May 10, 2013 - On Tuesday, May 7th, Liberty County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) Sergeant Ralph Fuller was on random patrol, west of Cleveland. He was on C.R. 381, also known as Pin Oak Road, when he saw what appeared to be fresh vehicle tracks in the grass leading into a property just north of the SH 105 Bypass. Sgt. Fuller knew there was an old materials yard owned by H.B. Zachary Construction at the end of the grass trail, so he drove down the trail to investigate further.
When Sgt. Fuller reached the edge of the tree line at the end of the trail, he observed three men using a cutting torch and tools to disassemble some old metal overhangs that had once been used in the construction of the SH 105 Bypass. He also saw a fourth subject walking toward the area where he was concealed. Sgt. Fuller immediately took that man into custody and placed him in his patrol vehicle. While still concealed from the other three men, Fuller called for backup units and awaited their arrival before confronting the other three men.
Once backup units arrived, the deputies fanned out around the materials yard, creating a perimeter. Then they closed in on the men, catching them by surprise. All three were taken into custody without incident.
Subsequent investigation determined the four men did not have consent from the property owners to be removing anything from the site. The deputies therefore arrested the men and transported them to the Liberty County Jail.
The four men booked-in to the County Jail for the offense of Theft >$1500 - <$20,000 (State Jail Felony), were: Charles Lee Konstantine, 50, of Silsbee; Douglas L. Konstantine, 27, of Silsbee; Randall Scott Konstantine, 51, of Silsbee; and Gregory A. Silcox, 26, of Cleveland. Charles Konstantine is the father of Douglas Konstantine and brother of Randall Konstantine. Justice of the Peace Stephen Hebert set bond for the four men at $10,000 each. There was an additional hold placed on Douglas Konstantine for an outstanding narcotics warrant out of Hardin County.
