Patty Allen to Speak about Heirloom Bulbs

LIBERTY, October 2, 2013 - Please join the Liberty County Master Gardener’s as they host Patty Allen of Bayou City Heirloom Bulbs on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. The program will be held at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office – Liberty County at 501 Palmer in Liberty.

With a love of flowering things Patty Allen started Bayou City Heirloom Bulbs in 1989 with the idea of growing daylilies and amaryllis. Realizing there were other growers of both in her area, she opted to go another direction. When introduced to the heirloom bulb, The Red Oxblood, or Hurricane Lily, she knew she had found her niche. Since then she has expanded her search for bulbs that are hardy and multiply readily without a lot of fuss and bother. These include almost all types of heirloom bulbs found in the southern tier of the United States. Patty has made a career out of finding and propagating bulbs and her current collection includes bulbs from as far away as Camaroon.

If you are a lover of flowering things and bulbs and want to know everything there is to know about them, come join the Master Gardener’s for an evening of fun and education. Ms. Allen will a variety of bulbs on hand for sale.
