Be Vigilant During Spring Break and at All Times

LIBERTY, March 7, 2013 - Spring break is almost here, the weather is great, and kids are planning parties and sleepovers at each other’s homes.

The Liberty Police Department would like to caution parents to be vigilant about where their children go during spring break and any other time.  The Liberty Police Department has a program on our Facebook page called Offender Watch that will allow anyone to put in an address to determine if it is the home of a registered sex offender.  Offender Watch will also allow a concerned parent to enter a zip code and see a map location of any registered sex offenders in that area.  If you wish you can sign up for alerts that you will receive anytime a change is made on an address in Liberty.  Currently this feature is only available on our Facebook page but we are working toward making it available on our website.  If you don’t have Facebook you can perform the same search on www.communitynotification.com/tx/libertypd

The Liberty PD would urge all parents, when receiving flyers and invitations to a home where they are not familiar with the parents, to search the Offender Watch site before allowing their child to attend an event there.  It is a violation of state law in Texas for any law enforcement agency, including the Liberty Police Department, to publicly state as a department or an officer of a department, where a registered sex offender resides.  Therefore, LPD would strongly urge all parents to assume this responsibility themselves.  LPD urges all citizens to pass this information on to others parents they know.
