Man Shot and Injured During Argument
LIBERTY August 27, 2013 - According to Captain Ken DeFoor, At 10:58pm, Monday August 26, 2013, the Sheriff’s dispatcher received a telephone call from William Francis, age 55 years old who advised the dispatcher that he has just shot a man with a 410 shotgun at a friend’s home located at 151 Riverview Dr. This location is in the “Plaza” Sub-Division area of South Liberty County.
Units were dispatched to the scene but the access roads were such that it required a 4 wheel drive ATV for the responding Deputy’s to reach the residence. According to Sgt. Michelle Deshotel the very early and preliminary investigation indicates that a disturbance began at the home of Bruce Johnson and an argument developed between William Francis, who is said to be “homeless”, and another man, age 53 years old.
From the preliminary information gained by Sgt. Deshotel, it appears that Francis was being attack and beaten by this other man and, at some point, in order to defend himself from further attacks, William Francis obtained the 410 shotgun and shot the other man in the face.
Life Flight was requested and the shooting victim was transported to the Kenefick helipad by ambulance and flown to a hospital in the Houston Medical Center in unknown condition.
The identity of the shooting victim is not being released at this time pending notification of his family.
Sgt. Investigator Brian Bortz, lead Investigator, is enroute to the scene as of this writing therefore it is unknown, at this time, if any charges will be filed. The investigation is continuing according to Captain DeFoor.
