Vehicle Pursuit Ends on Fourth Street Liberty
LIBERTY, January 5, 2014 - Shortly before midnight on Saturday the City of Liberty Police Department was notified of a red pickup with two people fighting inside going down the road that stopped at the Chevron at FM 563 and US 90 in Liberty.
Officer Walter responded to the call and conducted a traffic stop on Independence drive just south of the convenience store.
Officer Walter made contact with the driver and obtained his driver’s license at which point the driver put the red pickup in gear and sped off. At this time one of the male passengers bailed out of the back seat of the pickup.
Officer Walter called a vehicle pursuit with two male occupants and a female companion inside the vehicle.
The vehicle returned to US 90 heading eastbound, ran through the Whittington Edition Subdivision and onto Fourth Street that is a dead end.
Once at the dead end the red pickup fled through and backyard of a home and came to a stop.
The three males in the pickup were members of a Sandblasting and Painting Crew working in the area.
The foreman and the college student members of the work crew made it back to J J’s Chevron where an ambulance was summoned to treat the foreman for injuries he sustained including a laceration over the left eye.
The driver of the vehicle fled through the woods and with assistance was later located and taken into custody while hiding behind a shed at a residence on FM 563. He was identified as Terry Charles Jones age 32 thought to be of Oklahoma.
Jones was charged with Fleeing or Evading in a Motor Vehicle and transported to the Liberty County Jail. Additional charges are pending.
