Liberty Mayor Visits Hunger Busters Program

LIBERTY, July 29, 2013 - Liberty Mayor Carl Pickett visits with Liberty ISD Food Services staff as they prepare lunches for the Liberty Hunger Busters Summer Youth Lunch program.

According to a Liberty ISD spokesperson, the program provided approximately 3,900 lunches to children last week alone. For the fifth consecutive year Hunger Busters is providing free lunches to children 18 years of age and under during the summer months. The program is a partnership between Liberty ISD, Texas AgriLife Extension, and local church congregations. Except for the LISD Food Services staff and some support from Texas AgriLife Extension, Hunger Busters is run entirely by volunteers. Nutritious lunches are available for pick up at various sites around Liberty Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 12 noon through August 16th. For more information, including the locations of distribution sites, call St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church at 936-336-3762 or the Texas AgriLife Extension office at 936-334-3230.
