Stolen Horse Recovered

EAST MONTGOMERY COUNTY, February 13, 2013 - The Precinct 4 Constable’s Office reunited a stolen horse with her owner late Tuesday, but deputies are still trying to locate the thieves and the stolen truck and trailer.

Around 1:15 p.m. on February 8, a Pct. 4 Deputy Constable responded to the Tractor Supply Company located at 23741 US 59 in Porter where Conroe resident Anita Lee said she went inside the store for about 40 minutes and walked out to find her truck and trailer gone, along with her horse, Kat’s Trophy. Store security video showed a green car circling the area before stopping in front of the truck and trailer, where what appeared to be a white male passenger got out of the car walked over to the driver’s side of the pickup and drove it away a short time later.

The surveillance video and a photo of the paint mare were distributed to law enforcement throughout the area and to the public through various media outlets and social networking sites.

Late Tuesday afternoon, the Houston Police Department contacted Precinct 4 saying they believed they had located Kat’s Trophy. Precinct 4 responded to a location in the Homestead Road area where they found a mare tied to a tree without any access to food or water. Based the investigation conducted at that location, investigators do not believe the property owner was involved in the theft, but that thieves left the horse there and fled with the truck and trailer.
The mare was thin, had halter burns and was missing a shoe, but otherwise was in good condition. Precinct 4 Livestock Deputy Dwayne Morrow contacted Ms. Lee as soon as he confirmed it was her horse. She was waiting for Morrow at the East Montgomery County Annex in New Caney, with a borrowed truck and trailer, when he returned with Kat’s Trophy. Horse and owner were reunited and she fed the mare peppermints, her favorite treat. Lee, who said she had been unable to rest since the theft, stayed just long enough to meet and thank Pct. 4 Constable Rowdy Hayden. She then loaded up her horse and headed home.

Constable Hayden said investigators are following new leads regarding the identity of the thieves and hope that will lead to their arrest and the recovery of the truck and trailer.

The truck is described as a 2006 white Ford F250 Super Duty 4X4 Super Cab, license plate BP75282. The trailer is a white 2010 S&H, license plate DYZH70. Anyone with information regarding this case should contact law enforcement.
