13 Year Old Boy Found Hanging
MOSS HILL, December 31, 2013 - A frantic “911” call to the Liberty County Sheriff Department’s dispatcher at 1:35pm sent units responding to a reported hanging of a thirteen (13) year old young boy at the residence located in the 2600 block of Hwy. 105 East in mid-Liberty County.
The dispatcher received a call from Cody Scott, the 19 year old brother of the young boy who reported that his younger brother had been found hanging in a barn that sits behind the residence.
Lead Investigator Sgt. Josh Cummins and Sgt. Kenny Dagle conducted the investigation. According to their interviews with a younger 10 year old brother of the 13 year old, he along with a friend and his older 13 year old brother had been playing in the family barn when the other two boys missed the older brother. When they went to look for him, the 10 year old brother found his older brother hanging from a rope attached to a rafter of the barn. Ms. Tiffany Villeyard, mother of the young boy was away from the home at the time of the incident but arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.
Liberty County EMS was called to the scene where the young boy was transported to the Liberty/Dayton hospital. The young man was later pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace, Judge Stephen Hebert who also ordered an autopsy.
No determination is possible at this early stage of the investigation to know if the incident was an accident or otherwise. More information should be forthcoming after the results of the autopsy are completed and the investigators complete their investigation.
