Liberty Garden Club Announces Award-winning Christmas Decorations

LIBERTY, December 18, 2013 - The Liberty Garden Club has chosen several homes that represent the best of 2013’s Christmas displays.  In selecting the homes this year, the Club’s committee looked not only for dazzling lights, but for other decorations which elevated the overall setting above and beyond the norm with a touch of whimsy.  It was a particularly tough decision because there were so many excellent light displays across Liberty this year.  As always, the homes of members of the Liberty Garden Club were disqualified from consideration.  Thank you to everyone who called in their favorite.
The home selected as the best overall is the LeNormand home at 2315 Cos.  It has a traditional Southern style that reflects old-fashioned charm.  Tied for second overall are two lovely estates that have awe-inspiring light displays covering large areas that one has to stop and study to appreciate:  the Hudnall home at 4619 McGuire Road and the Jordan home on North Travis. Honorable Mention is awarded to a home that rivals the house in the movie “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” for the most bulbs per square foot:  the home of Mary King and Doug Judd at 2615 Cos Street.  Finally, the best overall neighborhood selected is the downtown area that encompasses Travis, Milam and Austin streets (north and south) and Webster, Cos, and Trinity avenues (east and west).

The Liberty Garden Club also recognizes several other exceptional Christmas displays this year.  The home at 106 Forest has the best techno-light-music display.  The best cut-out display is on the corner of Kipling and Holly streets.  The Santa looking out of his trailer in front of the home at 114 Regency was voted best animated, while the most creative light creation goes to the home on Lynnwood.  The best Nativity is awarded to the Harris home on Trinity Street.  And the best commercial decoration goes to Liberty Furniture at 820 Main for its colorful window paintings.
Although the selections highlight some of the best Christmas decorations in Liberty, there are so many more to see.  The members of the Liberty Garden Club thank the homeowners and businesses in Liberty for putting so much effort into their Christmas displays this year, and encourage everyone in the community to take some time to drive around and see all the beautiful light displays in our town.
