Oilfield Worker Suffers Electrocution

DAYTON, April 18, 2013 - Thursday morning at 9:51 AM the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department and Liberty County EMS responded to a small oilfield at the end of CR 460 off FM 1409 south of Dayton to treat and investigate the electrocution of a 53 year old oilfield worker.

The injured worker was identified as John Ray Flores age 53 of Victoria, TX.

According to investigative reports filed by Deputy Gordon Bean Flores was driving a pole truck carrying bags of cement when the steel poles on the truck came in close proximity to power lines near the worksite.

Electricity arced from the power lines to the tall poles on the truck sending electricity flowing through the truck on its’ way to the ground.

The electric shock went through the truck and blew out a front tire.

The contractor working at the site was Basic Energy.

Liberty County EMS transported Flores to a landing zone where he was transferred to the care of Life Flight and flown to Houston’s Hermann Hospital for treatment.

All that is known about the condition of Flores is that he was both conscious and breathing when transported.
