Drug Corridor Hwy 59 Cleveland

CLEVELAND, October 26, 2013 - The “drug corridor” on Hwy. 59, through the Cleveland, Texas area has taken another “hit” from the on- going illegal drug trafficking enforcement efforts of the Liberty County Sheriff Department’s  Narcotics Division. An out of state vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation on Hwy. 59 and FM 105 at approximately 7:50pm on October 23rd.  The occupants, Ramiro Campus Puente, male, age 36 and Yesenia Yepez Flores, female, age 29 both from Michigan were arrested and charged with Money Laundering and placed in the Liberty County jail.

The 2007 Jeep Commander they were driving was found to have an after market false compartment located in the rear portion of the vehicle under the back seat that could only be accessed by a door located under the carpeting. A little over $9,000 in cash was confiscated.  Deputies stated the couple displayed extreme nervousness and conflicting stories of where they were going and what the money was to be used for. A “consent to search” was obtained from the owner of the vehicle and the arrest followed the discovery of the large amount of cash.

Both Puente and Flores are presently in the Liberty County jail.
