Disturbance Call Yields Three Arrests
LIBERTY, June 7, 2013 - Near midnight on Thursday Officer Walter and Longoria of the City of Liberty Police Department responded to a domestic violence call at a house in the 800 block of Layl Drive in Liberty.
Jeffery Coker and his wife Elizabeth had been staying at the house belonging to Laura Smart. It was when Elizabeth Coker was trying to get a child away from Laura Smart that Smart was assaulted. Elizabeth Coker was placed under arrest for Assault Family Violence and transported to the Liberty County Jail.
During the investigation Officers learned that Jeffery Coker was at the residence hiding in a bedroom closet to avoid arrest as he had seven or eight outstanding warrants. Officers quickly located Coker and placed him under arrest transporting him to the Liberty County Jail.
As the investigation proceeded into the incident Officers learned that Vaughn Durham was hiding under a tarp on the fence in the back yard of the residence and located him as well. Durham was also arrested on outstanding warrants and transported to the Liberty County Jail.
