DNA Confirms Identity of Remains
LIBERTY, September 19, 2013 - On Monday, September 16th. Sgt. Investigator Paul Lasco of the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department was contacted by the Medical Examiner’s office in Beaumont, Texas and advised that DNA analysis had been completed and the findings CONFIRMED that the human remains found floating in the Trinity River on August 31st, is James Allen Graves. Mr. Graves, a 35 year old resident of the Dayton area was reported as a “missing person” to the Sheriff’s Department on September 1st, the day after unknown human remains were found by two fishermen in the Trinity River.
All day on Tuesday, after confirmation of the DNA results, Sgt. Lasco and Sgt. Chris Ungles met with family members of James Graves, to share the DNA results and to release the remains to the family for burial.
At the present time the actual cause of death is unknown as further examination of the remains by the medical examiner’s office are still pending.
Sgt. Lasco and Sgt. Ungles are still continuing their investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of James Graves. Both investigators are asking for anyone who may have information relative to this case to contact the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department at (936) 336-4500.
