Man Jumps from Trinity River Bridge

LIBERTY, July 10, 2013 - According to Officer Walter of the City of Liberty Police Department a man injured himself shortly before 10:00 PM Monday night when he jumped off the old Trinity River Bridge and fell into shallow water suffering an injury to his ankle.

The man was identified as Randy Chapman age 34 who according to Officer Walter was staying under the bridge because his house burned down in Dayton last week. Luckily he has found a place to go.

Chapman and his friends were drinking and with judgment clouded, choose to jump off the east end of the old bridge crossing the Trinity.

Officer Walter estimated that the man jumped approximately 40 feet into the water and after getting out of the water his ankle began to swell. It wasn’t until later, according to Officer Walter, that Chapman began to experience extreme pain due to the pain masking effects of alcohol consumed prior to the incident.

Liberty EMS responded to the scene and transported Chapman to the hospital for treatment.
