Major Accident on US 90
LIBERTY, January 13, 2013 - The City of Liberty Police Department and City of Liberty Ambulance responded to a two-vehicle accident that occurred on US 90 in front of L & L Truck and Trailer only a short distance west of FM 563 at 11:50 AM Sunday morning.
According to Officer Elizabath Polasek who investigated the accident, Kenneth Prejean, Jr. of Houston was driving his wife and small child in a silver SUV eastbound on US 90 just east of the My Little Kitchen Restaurant when a Maroon Mustang driven by Johnathan Smith, Jr. age 19 of Dayton driving behind the silver SUV attempted to change lanes.
Smith lost control of the Mustang attempting to make the lane change on the slippery wet road and crashed into the silver SUV sending both vehicles out of control.
The vehicles wound up in the parking lot and private of L & L Truck and Trailer after crashing through and destroying a long section of pipe fencing, taking down a tall sign pole and demolishing the signage in front of the business.
According to Officer Polasek damage loss to the business was about $10,000 dollars and both vehicles suffered extensive damage as well.
The City of Liberty transported two of the occupants of the silver SUV, Mr. Prejean’s wife and daughter, to Liberty Dayton Regional Medical Center in Liberty for medical diagnosis to determine what steps should be taken to treat their injuries.
