Liberty Community Garden Hosts Backyard Beekeeping Workshop

LIBERTY, October 3, 2013 - According to Liberty County Extension Agent, Winnefred Jackson, the Backyard Beekeeping Workshop held on October 1st was a hit! The Backyard Beekeeping Workshop brought together local bee keepers and individuals around the county to promote bees as beneficial insects, learn ways to establish, manage and safely control hives for residential owners and assist those interested in starting a small honey production business. This session was one of the spectacular sessions that Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service’s “Backyard Basics” program features. “Backyard Basics” is designed to foster self-reliance and developed to help individuals enjoy healthy living through home-based food production, food preparation and food preservation.

Texas AgriLife Extension Service of Liberty County would like to express their gratitude to the Liberty Community Garden, located at 2525 Grand Ave. in Liberty for hosting the workshop and to the Liberty County Bee Keepers Association for conducting the session at no cost to learners.

For more information about the local organization visit their website at http://libertycountybeekeepers.org/. The Liberty Community Garden welcomes volunteers at the garden on Tuesday evenings to help revamp the community garden.
