Auto Train Collision on Sunday Morning
DAYTON, February 17, 2013 - The Liberty County Sheriff’s Office responded to an auto train collision on CR 615 near FM 686 in Dayton Sunday morning around 8:45 AM.
According to DPS Trooper Boyd Lamb a black Dodge Neon failed to stop for an oncoming train as it pulled into the railroad crossing. The crossing is in a rural area and is only equipped with a sign and no crossing arms.
Liberty County EMS responded and prepared the driver of the Neon, Carmen Campos Urrutia age 20 of Dayton, for transport by Life Flight.
The Dayton Volunteer Fire Department managed the landing zone at the scene where Life Flight landed and transported the 20 year-old woman to Houston.
The young woman’s mother arrived on the scene and suffered a health issue and was transported to a local hospital.
