Angel Tree Program in Liberty County
LIBERTY, December 2, 2013 - In an effort to give children that are economically disadvantaged a Merry Christmas, the City of Liberty Fire Department is hosting, for the third year in a row, the “Angel Tree Program”. The Liberty County Sheriff’s Department is joining the LFD in this most worthwhile endeavor by placing a Christmas tree in the lobby of the Sheriff’s Department similar to the one that is also in the lobby of the Liberty Fire Department. On these trees are paper Angels with a child’s name, age and the needs of that particular child on the back. The public is invited to come into either the Liberty Fire Department located at 1912 Lakeland Dr. in the City of Liberty or the Sheriff’s Department located at 2400 Beaumont Ave. also located in the City of Liberty and pick one or more Angles from the trees and purchase the desired and needed items that are listed on the back of the Angel.
After the purchase of the items are made, it is requested that the items be dropped back off at either location ALONG WITH THE PAPER ANGEL so the gifts can later be wrapped and the correct gift(s) will go directly to the child who’s name is on that particular Angel.
The names of these children have been accumulated and recommended by local area schools, churches and concerned citizens of our community. The names and needs are verified and cross checked to assure that needs are legitimate and deserved.
The gifts(s) will be delivered to the children on December 23rd. by “Santa” and his host of “Elves” driving a fire truck and a Sheriff’s unit. The deadline for having the gifts at either the fire department or the Sheriff’s Department is Saturday, December 21st. so the “Elves” will have time to wrap the gifts for Santa.
In the event of questions, please contact the two chief Elves, Misty Delany at (936) 336-3922 or Sherry Walton at (936) 336-4500.
