USDA celebrates National Farm To School Month, October 2013

LIBERTY, September 21, 2013 - Congress recently passed a resolution designating October as National Farm To School Month encouraging educators and parents to integrate food, agriculture and nutrition lessons in the classroom and at home. Lessons about healthy eating choices, where food comes from and what types of things a family can do to teach children about nutrition and daily healthy eating habits.

The USDA has released activities and resources online to help celebrate in October. USDA is pleased to support these and many other farm to school activities on their website, http://www.fns.usda.gov. In their vision, economic opportunities for U.S. food producers, span the school meat tray and include everything from the salad bar and fresh fruit and vegetable servings to the wheat in the pizza crust, beans in the chili, rice in the stir fry, turkey in the sandwiches, and cheese in the quesadillas.
