Motorcycle Rider Seriously Injured in FM 563 Crash

LIBERTY, May 28, 2012 - A motorcycle accident occurred on FM 563 at CR 149 shortly before Noon on Memorial Day that sent the rider to Hermann Hospital in Houston by Life Flight.

According to Officer Kyle Cornelius of the City of Liberty Police Department, the male rider was on a Harley and his female companion was riding a trike northbound on FM 563 approaching CR 149.

The rider on the Harley was maneuvering to avoid a turtle in the road or just collided with the turtle and lost control crashing the bike and traveling into the ditch adjacent to the northbound lanes.

The City of Liberty EMS responded to the scene and transported him to the helipad behind the fire station in Liberty where he was transferred to the care of Life Flight suffering a head injury.

According to Officer Cornelius the bike rider was a 63-year-old man from Baytown. He and his companion were on a leisure ride on Memorial Day when the accident occurred.

The rider was wearing a helmet and the bike was insured.
