|Commissioners Debate Jail Contract with Sheriff Patterson
LIBERTY, March 10, 2012 - The issue of the contract to operate the Liberty County Jail became the issue of the County Commissioners Workshop this week.
The largest single contract that County Commissioners ever approve is this contract and usually this decision begins to be considered at least a year prior to the expiration of the existing contract.
County Judge Craig McNair and Sheriff Henry Patterson apparently fail to begin considering the contract in an appropriate time despite the fact the County Judge is the Chief County Administrator and Sheriff’ Patterson by law is responsible for the operations of the Jail.
According to sources near the time the existing contract expired County Commissioner were forced to extend the contract in order to continue to operate the a jail.
