Train Collision Update from Liberty PD

LIBERTY, May 10, 2012 - Liberty Police issued the following statement reguarding the train/truck accident that occurred on Wednesday evening.

On May 9, 2012 at approximately 8:20 pm the Liberty Police Department was contacted about a truck being stuck on the rail road tracks at San Jacinto Street in Liberty. Officers were dispatched to the location and verified that an 18 Wheeler, that was off of the permitted route, was stuck on the rail road tracks and advised dispatch to contact the rail road to stop all trains.

The City of Liberty Police Department contacted Union Pacific Rail Road to advise them of the location and situation with the train tracks at San Jacinto Street.

While crews were working to remove the truck from the train tracks, a train horn was heard moving in the direction of the truck. All crews were then moved away from the truck before the train struck the truck which allowed there to be no injuries in the accident. The accident occurred at approximately 9:20 pm.
