Trailer Fire on SH 146
DAYTON, June 26, 2012 - The Dayton Volunteer Fire Department and the Mont Belvieu Fire Department responded to a fire on SH 146 about five miles north of the Mont Belvieu City Limits shortly before 10:00 AM on Tuesday.
A truck pulling a goose trailer loaded with a small drilling platform was on fire. The truck was immediately separated from the trailer as fire fighters worked to put water on the fire.
The fire was caused by an overheated wheel bearing that caught fire and spread to the trailer.
Hydraulic fluid in the drilling platform was a concern of fire fighters trying to extinguish the blaze. The wooden platform beneath the drilling platform was difficult to put out because it was difficult to get water under the drilling platform and onto the burning wood.
The southbound lanes of SH 146 was closed while the trailer was being extinguished.
