Major Accident on US 90 at SH 146 Bypass

LIBERTY, May 21, 2012 - Shortly after 3:00 AM on Monday a major accident occurred on US 90 at the SH 146 Bypass in Liberty when a fast moving Ford Expedition crashed into the rear of an 18 wheeler tanker truck.

The City of Liberty Fire Department and Ambulance Service responded to the scene and extracted the driver of the Expedition from the wreckage of his vehicle.

The driver suffered a head injury and at press time it is not known where he was transported in order to receive necessary medical care.

The Expedition was driven by Romundo Juarez age 27 thought to be from the local area and was registered in Louisianna.

According to Officer Cedric McDuffie who investigated the accident for the City of Liberty Police Department both vehicles were insured and the continued investigation into the cause of the accident will determine whether or not alcohol may have been a factor in the cause of the crash.

The driver of the 18 wheeler was Mike Swisher. You may recall that Swisher was the driver of an 18 wheeler involved in a major accident on Oil Field Road a few months ago in Liberty when an SUV collided with the tanker trailer he was driving.

Any citations in this accident will be a part of the continuing investigation into the cause of the crash.
