Women Arrested Burglarizing Retired Liberty Widow

LIBERTY, July 30, 2012 - On Tuesday afternoon a neighbor noticed a suspicious vehicle at the residence of a retired widow on Bowie Street and reported it to the police.

It was discovered that the home had been burglarized around 2:00 PM in the afternoon and property was missing from the home.

According to Police Investigators when the elderly woman came home, her big screen color TV was missing as well as a large amount of her jewelry that she had accumulated over a lifetime.

According to City of Liberty Police Officer Jennifer Bowles, the vehicle used in the burglary was located at a residence on North Travis Street around 5:30 PM the same day.

Police contacted the vehicle owner, Tracy Bice of Liberty and her niece, Summer Bice had been using and had possession of the vehicle.

Summer Bice was summoned to the residence as Investigators needed answers to questions concerning where the vehicle had been.

During the questioning of Bice, investigators learned that she and accomplice Suzanne McClelland age 31 of Liberty had burglarized the elderly woman’s home and had stashed some of the stolen property in McClelland’s motel room at the Inn at Liberty Motel.

Police recovered the big screen color TV at the motel room and recovered some of the jewelry taken in the burglary at a residence in the South Liberty Oil Field belonging to the person who purchased the stolen jewelry from the pair of burglars.

Arrested for burglary of a habitation at different locations and times in this incident were Suzanne McClelland and Summer Bice both of Liberty. Both were transported to the Liberty County Jail charged with Burglary of a Habitation a State Jail Felony.
