|Shots Fired at Suspects UPDATE
LIBERTY, February 22, 2012 – This morning i-dineout.com ran the story, "Shots Fired at Theft Suspects," outlining the events that took place at a residence in north Liberty County where a homeowner opened fire on two suspects that were attempting to steal his welding machine around 4:15 AM today.
Shortly after our story ran, a loyal audience member notified i-dineout.com that Channel 13 aired a story this morning about a man that was found shot in the back by Harris County Sheriff’s Department Deputies at the intersection of US 90 and the Beltway at 4:46 AM today.
The time and vehicle description lead the audience member to suspect that the two incidents were related.
i-dineout.com notified Captain Rex Evans of the LCSO who in turn contacted investigators in Houston.
Captain Evans reported this afternoon that further investigation appears to indicate that the man found in Houston and the man shot at by a homeowner here in Liberty County are one in the same. It will take further investigation to positively tie the two incidents together.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Department the person found is a 22 year old male. The vehicle he was driving was found abandoned in a lane of traffic at the intersection. He was taken by a motorist who stopped to help to East Houston Regional Hospital suffering a gunshot wound to the upper back.
According to Captain Evans the man has been transferred to Ben Taub Hospital in Houston in critical condition and as of yet investigators have not been able to speak to him and positively identify him as the man shot in Liberty County early this morning.
The homeowner in Liberty County, after reviewing photographs of the vehicle, confirm that it is the vehicle he shot at early this morning, according to Evans.
