Theft of Big Screen TV Thwarted at Wal-Mart
LIBERTY, May 11, 2012 – Thursday evening a man was spotted passing the point of sale without paying for his purchase leaving the Wal-Mart while pushing a big screen color TV in a shopping cart.
Once spotted in the parking lot the man fled on foot into the wooded area on the east side of the parking lot adjacent to the SH 146 bypass.
Officers responded to the scene and spent considerable time searching the wooded area by flash light and monitoring the its’ perimeter.
Eventually realizing that the man would have to come of the woods to possibly return to his car to leave they abandoned the active search and waited.
A couple of hours later police received a call that the man was on foot walking toward the Murphy Gas Station and quickly responded to the scene.
Officer Elizabeth Polasek was first to arrive and spotted the man near the kiosk.
According to Officer Polasek she ordered the man to stop but he quickly fled back toward the wooded area with her in pursuit.
The chase went a considerable distance before Officer Polasek took the man down near the entrance to the parking lot from the SH 146 Bypass.
According to Officer Polasek, Zackary Shaw age 21of the Liberty Dayton Area was arrested for Fleeing or Evading Arrest or Detention and transported to the Liberty County Jail.
Further investigation revealed that Zackary had a female accomplice that no one noticed who also fled the store.
According to Corporal Frank Longoria Shawna Harvey was located down the road from Wal-Mart and was arrested for Failure to Identify.
