Severe Weather Possible Tonight

LIBERTY, November 26, 2012 - Liberty County Emergency Management Coordinator Tom Branch informed this morning of the possibility of severe weather in the Liberty County area on Monday night.

A cold front will be moving into the region tonight along with an upper level disturbance over Baja. As these approach the the atmosphere over Southeast Texas will be destabilizing and moistening.  Tonight with the front pushing into the area we are expecting a broken line of showers and thunderstorms to form near the College Station region around 5-8 pm then move southeastward...filling in and become a more solid line of storms. Strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible tonight. Initially the storms may pose mainly a hail threat but as they move southeast into the Conroe area the threat of damaging winds will increase.  A very slight chance of weak tornadoes will occur with the storms mainly for the areas east of Interstate 45. Widespread rainfall of 1/4" with isolated amounts near 1 inch will be possible. The storms should be out of the region by 5 am with only a few lingering showers.
