Suspect Arrested in Felony Traffic Stop
LIBERTY, May 18, 2012 - According to City of Liberty Police, a felony traffic stop was conducted in the 300 block of Main Street in Liberty in the late afternoon on Friday.
Police had located a wanted person of interest in several cases, Jerry Rigs age 37, also known as J-Rod, of CR 147 in Liberty traveling as a passenger in a black Nissan.
Riggs had outstanding Parole Violation warrants and was sought by Police.
Upon making the traffic stop Riggs jumped out of the vehicle and fled south on Main Street on foot across US 90 to near the C & M Manufactured Homes just west of the John Deere place into the woods behind the facility.
After approximately a ten minute search, Officers found Riggs in a heavily wooded area and took him into custody.
In addition to the outstanding warrant, Riggs will be charged with Fleeing or Evading Arrest and Detention. Others charges are expected to be filed as well as investigation into other cases where he is a suspect continues. Riggs has a lengthy criminal record including various types of Theft, Harrasment and Assault.
The driver of the black Nissan was identified as Riggs’ girlfriend, Meagen Ross age 18 of Tarkington. She was taken into custody, charged with Harboring a Fugitive and transported to the Liberty County Jail.
