Votes Recounted in Constable Pct. 3 Race
LIBERTY, June 5, 2012 - Liberty County Republican Party Chairman, Ken Coleman informed i-dineout.com this afternoon that a recount of the voting in the Republican Party Primary for the office of Constable Pct. 3 was conducted on Tuesday morning at the Liberty County Courthouse.
Election night results indicated that 49.4% of the vote caste in this three-man race for Constable Pct. 3 were caste for Danny Frankum and Tommy Koen received 30.9% of the votes.
If Danny Frankum had received 50% of the votes in this race there would be no need for a run off election between Frankum and Koen. With only a very small number of votes required to avoid a run off and given the fact that approximately 90 “Emergency Ballots,” which had to be hand counted rather than machine counted in the Hardin Box as a result of running out of ballots, the possibility existed that a small error had occurred which could change the outcome.
It was Candidate Frankum who requested the recount that is every candidates right and paid the Liberty County Republican Party for conducting the recount.
The official recount of this race changed the outcome by one vote. That vote came as the result of a provisional ballot that was caste during the election in which the question arose as to whether or not the voter who caste the ballot was registered had occurred and had not been counted on Election Night. This ballot was located during the recount and the voters status was confirmed as that of a registered voter by the Liberty County Tax Assessor Collector’s Office. This voter’s vote was finally counted in the recount and appropriately assigned, adding one vote to those already counted in favor of Candidate Darrell Elliot according to Ken Coleman.
The vote caste in favor of Candidate Koen and Frankum did NOT change as a result of the recount.
