Wanted Felon Apprehended at Liberty City Park
LIBERTY, March 25, 2012 - It was around 1:30 PM on Sunday afternoon when Officer Kyle Cornelius with the City of Liberty Police Department responded to a call of people swimming in the pond at the Liberty City Park off Cook Street in Liberty.
According to Officer Cornelius he found some people sitting at a picnic table and approached them. Officer Davis quickly joined Officer Cornelius on the call.
One of the individuals was a white male who was acting nervous and suspicious.
Officer Cornelius requested the man’s permission to search him for weapons.
In one pants pocket Officer Cornelius found key blanks and when questioned about them the man said that he used to be a locksmith.
Searching the other pocket Officer Cornelius found a cigarette package containing methamphetamine or cocaine. As soon as Officer Cornelius found that the man took off and fled on foot from the picnic table west toward and open field.
Jumping the barbed wire fence with Officer Cornelius and Officer Davis in pursuit, they ran all the was across the large field, jumped another barbed wire fence and kept running across another field until both were exhausted and slowed to a walk.
Walking about 50 yards behind the man, Officer Cornelius and Officer Davis were eventually able to apprehend the man identified as James Edwin Ramsey age 33 of Harris County. Ramsey had an outstanding Probation Violation Warrant for his arrest on charges of Possession of Dangerous Drugs.
Ramsey’s criminal conviction record from the Department of Public Safety indicates five previous convictions. Those convictions include a variety of charges from DWI and Fleeing and Evading in a Motor Vehicle to Transportation of Chemicals with Intent to Manufacture a Controlled Substance.
