Pickup Crashes Avoiding Pedestrian LIBERTY, March 19, 2012 - It was shortly after 10:00 PM on Sunday night that a major accident occurred in the eastbound lanes of US 90 near Georgia Street in Liberty that closed the roadway for some time as repairs were made to damaged city infrastructure. According to Officer Cedric McDuffie and witnesses at the scene a pedestrian was attempting to cross US 90 from north to south. After reach the center of the roadway he darted across the path of an eastbound white Chevy pickup. The driver of the pickup was John Compston age 47 of Hull. He took evasive action to avoid hitting the pedestrian and crashed into a utility pole dropping power lines onto the roadway. Patrol units from other agencies assisted the City of Liberty Police Department with traffic control until all the damage could be cleared and repairs were made.
