Search Resumes for Missing Man

LIBERTY, March 9, 2012 - Thursday evening at approximately 8:00 PM the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office began a search in the Tarkington / Cleveland / Plum Grove areas of Liberty County for a missing 54 year old man identified as Dennis Rogers.

Mr. Rogers, while 54 years old, sustained a serious head injury approximately four years ago and now has the mental capacity of a 9 year old. Mr. Rogers did have a cell phone on his person. The LCSO, working with the cellular carrier, pinged Mr. Rogers cell phone until approximately 1:00 AM Friday morning and there has been no signal since.

The LCSO contacted the U.S. Coast Guard who sent an aircraft to assist in search last night until nearly 3:00 AM Additionally, numerous volunteers and the Tarkington VFD arrived and assisted the LCSO in this search. Due to severe weather, dangerous terrain, nighttime conditions and fuel, the search had to stop temporarily.

With daylight conditions this morning the search has resumed with the help of volunteers on the ground and by air.
