Fingerprint Identification System

LIBERTY, May 31, 2012 - On May 30, 2012 The Liberty Police Department was awarded a grant from The Office of the Governor through Houston Galveston Area Council (HGAC) for a Digital Fingerprint Identification System. The grant amount for the system is $45, 320.00.

The Digital Fingerprint Identification System will allow for latent prints that are found at crime scenes to be scanned into the system and check for comparison. The system will check with surrounding Counties, DPS, and FBI. The system ties in to the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

The Liberty Police Department will have the only Digital Fingerprint Identification System in Liberty County. The Liberty Police Department will be ordering the system within 60 days and will receive training on how to use the system. After receiving the system and training, the Liberty Police Department will be able to assist any agency who would like to check latent prints for comparison from crime scenes.
