Intoxicated Driver Arrested at McDonald’s Drive Thru

DAYTON, March 11, 2012 – Shortly after 4:00 AM on Sunday morning a complainant at the McDonald’s in Dayton notified the Dayton Police Department of a man in a vehicle that was asleep in his car blocking the drive thru lane.

Officer Nathan Dewees of the Dayton Police Department was dispatched to the location to investigate.

Upon arrival Officer Dewees found the vehicle in the drive thru with the driver asleep behind the wheel.

In order to wake the man up, Officer Dewees called for assistance and an LCSO Deptuy responded.

They knocked on the windows, then both together shook the vehicle, then turned the siren in the police car on right behind the car trying to wake the man up.

An ambulance was called to the scene and Liberty County EMS responded.

Upon arrival of the ambulance Officers had no choice but to break out the rear window in the vehicle so that EMS personnel could get access and wake the man up.

He eventually woke up and was loaded into the ambulance. After examination the man identified as Garcia Lewis of Livingston and a student at Stephen F. Austin was released by EMS personnel.

Officer Dewees conducted a field sobriety test and arrested Lewis on charges of Driving While Intoxicated and transported him to the Liberty County Jail.

The vehicle that Lewis was driving was a rental car and he was in the area this weekend on a break according to Officer Dewees.
