Lady Finds a Home

LIBERTY, December 3, 2012 – Lady, a wire haired dachshund mix, was brought to the City of Liberty Animal Shelter as a stray at the beginning of November. Pals of the Pound put her photo on Facebook. Dona Show, President of a Dachshund Rescue of North America saw her photo, fell in love with Lady, and wanted to adopt her. There was a problem. Dona lived in Pennsylvania. Tracy Williams, of Pals of the Pound received an email from Racheal Gallagher, another rescue advocate from Pennsylvania, offering to arrange transportation of Lady to Pennsylvania. Lady was going to be transported by a car service to Dona at their expense.

Everything was fine until Lady went to the vet and found out she was pregnant with at least 3 puppies. The transportation service then cancelled saying they only take spay and neutered animals. Now the clock was ticking, we didn’t want Lady to have her puppies before she arrived in Pennsylvania. Dona put out the word on Facebook that Lady needed help. April Scott, who owns a business specializing in products for dachshunds,, volunteered to drive from her home in Ohio to Pittsburgh. Then fly from Pittsburgh to Houston, pick up Lady, then fly her back the same day. April started her journey at 4:30 that morning. Pals of the Pound President Tracy Williams and Animal Control Officer Audra Dickerson drove Lady to Houston Intercontinental Airport and met April for the big handoff. See attached photo.

After several weeks of emails, Facebook communication, and phone calls spanning 3 states, Lady is now safe and sound in her new rescue home. We can’t wait to get pictures of her new puppies. You can see Lady, and our available animals on our Facebook page or You can send donations to Pals of the Pound, PO Box 6047, Liberty, TX 77575.
