House Fire in Ames
AMES, April 24, 2012 - The home of Robert Kirkwood at 128 Trahan Street, between FM 160 and Beaumont Ave., burned on Monday night shortly after 9:00 PM.
Firefighters from Hull Daisetta and Liberty were first to be called into service to fight the large blaze followed by firefighters from Hardin, Moss Bluff and Devers VFD.
Water to fight the fire had to be trucked from a fire hydrant near FM 160 and Beaumont Ave. just north of the railroad tracks.
The house, though in bad shape according to those familiar with it on the scene, was occupied by Kirkwood and his companion Carla and utilities were hooked up to the home.
Live electric lines fell from the home and continued to spark while firefighters worked to put out the fire.
According to law enforcement on the scene a disturbance occurred yesterday at the house between Carla and her neighbors and a second disturbance occurred late today. After the second disturbance Carla left the home to cool off and upon her return the house was on fire.
Robert Kirkwood, age 52, was not at home at the time of the fire as Jail Authorities confirm he was in the Liberty County Jail charged with Theft of Property at this time. Additionally Kirkwood’s criminal history includes arrests for Possession of Cocaine, Evading Arrest or Detention and Possession of Marijuana that have occurred over the last several years.
Law Enforcement personnel on the scene thought that the fire marshal would be called in to investigate and determine the cause of the fire.
