Driver Flees After Accident on Bypass

LIBERTY, February 18, 2012 - According to Police Officers Elizabeth Polasek, just before midnight on Friday a motorist on the SH 146 Bypass reported a suspected intoxicated driver to the City of Liberty Police Department. As the caller was talking to police the vehicle left the roadway near the Murphy’s Gas Station in front of Wal-Mart, took out a stop sign and continued traveling in the ditch jumping a driveway and came to a stop in front of the Fellowship Church.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the accident.

Luckily no one was injured as a result of the accident.

Shortly after police arrived to investigate a friend of the driver showed up at the scene and called the driver on her cell phone. She identified the driver to police and pled with the driver to return to the accident scene because police were looking for him. He did not return.

According to Public Data the registered owner of the vehicle is Cody Bryan Howell of Hardin, TX.

At press time the police are familiar with the driver's whereabouts and hope to pick him up later in the evening hours.
