Liberty County Grand Jury Dismissed
LIBERTY, December 5, 2012 - The Liberty County Grand Jury that was appointed by 253rd District Court Judge Chap Cain to serve from July until December of this year, on November 27, 2012, was dismissed by Presiding Judge Larry Gist of Beaumont before it’s term of service expired.
The current Grand Jury consisted of the following members:
All received notification from the Liberty County District Clerk’s Office of the order to dismiss the Grand Jury.
Earlier in it’s term the Grand Jury was being assisted by Attorney Pro-Tem Cheryl Lieck of Anahuac. After her service to the Grand Jury ended Attorney Pro-Tem Larry Eastep assisted the Grand Jury.
According to the order dismissing the Grand Jury the Attorney Pro-Tem Larry Eastep filed a sealed motion with the Court asking that the Court dismiss the currently sitting Grand Jury. Judge Larry Gist, for reasons contained in the sealed motion granted the motion dismissing and discharging the currently sitting Grand Jury prior to the expiration of it’s current term.
The motion also states, “The duly elected District Attorney, Mike Little, has assured the Attorney Pro-Tem that the discharge and dismissal of the Grand Jury will not cause harm or undue delay to pending cases.
A new Grand Jury will be appointed by 75th District Court Judge Mark Morefield to begin it’s service in January and whose term will expire at the end of June next year.
