LIBERTY, July 13, 2012 – Around 11:30 PM on Thursday, the City of Liberty Police, Fire and EMS responded to a one-vehicle accident on FM 563 just south of Tree Top Terrace.

According to Officer Josh Cummins of the City of Liberty Police Department a white Chevy pickup was traveling north on FM 563 when the driver stated that something ran out in front of his truck. He applied the brakes and lost control of his vehicle, left the roadway to the right and struck two trees while in a skid. The pickup immediately caught fire and burned.

Fire Fighters quickly put out the fire of the burning truck and the driver Felix Santiago III age 41 of Baytown, now staying in Liberty, was checked out by Liberty EMS.

After a standard field sobriety test, Santiago was taken into custody on charges of DWI and transported to the Liberty County Jail.

FM 563 was closed for about one hour while this accident was investigated and the roadway cleared of debris.

The vehicle had paper, temporary tags which burned in the accident and police were looking for a VIN number somewhere on the burned vehicle to determine if the vehicle was insured.
