|Hull-Daisetta FFA Chapter Visits the State Capitol
DAISETTA February 24, 2012 – Hull-Daisetta FFA attended the third annual Agricultural Education and Texas FFA Day at the Capitol, hosted by the Texas FFA Association and the Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas. Texas FFA Day at the Capitol was held Feb. 21 in Austin, Texas, in conjunction with National FFA Week.
Hull-Daisetta FFA was one of more than 40 chapters that comprised more than 300 FFA members and advisors across Texas who participated in this event in order to learn about the history of the Texas State Capitol and the legislative process through workshops and tours. H-D FFA members included: Brady Ben, Stephanie Bendo, Dallas Sims and Chris Taylor.
Participants attended educational workshops on citizen engagement and student engagement, as well as legislative and agency advocacy. In addition, Representative Rick Hardcastle spoke with the members about agricultural issues and hot topics in legislation, while Representative Larry Gonzales discussed pursuing a career in politics.
FFA gives students the opportunity to apply practical classroom knowledge to real world experiences through local, state and national competitions and leadership conferences. Hull-Daisetta FFA has more than 60 FFA members with 60+ students enrolled in agricultural courses. Nation-wide there are more than 500,000 FFA members. The Texas FFA is the nation’s largest state FFA association with more than 85,000 members and more than 1,000 FFA chapters. In Texas, there are an estimated 1,600 agricultural science teachers impacting approximately 120,000 students enrolled in agricultural education classes at the secondary level.
