Drug Arrest in Wal-Mart Parking Lot
LIBERTY, July 20, 2012 - The City of Liberty Police Department was notified early Friday of a gray pickup traveling south on SH 146 that was unable to maintain a single lane of traffic near the North Main Baptist Church.
Officer’s responded and located the vehicle pulling into the parking lot of Wal-Mart.
According to Officer Kyle Cornelius as he approached the vehicle the driver appeared to be attempting to hide something in the rear seat of the vehicle.
After a lengthy investigation Officers noticed an open container of beer in the vehicle and conducted a standard field sobriety test whose results were negative as the driver did not appear to be intoxicated enough to qualify for arrest.
After consent to search was obtained, Officer Cornelius located a bottle of several Soma tablets which in fact were not prescribed for the driver, identified as Melissa Fregia Taylor age 47, in her possession.
After making arrangements for an adult to come to the Wal-Mart parking lot and assume care and custody of the woman’s teenage daughter, Taylor was taken into custody, charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and transported to the Liberty County Jail.
